What’s Spam Musubi?

Spam musubi is a popular snack that originated in Hawaii and has gained widespread popularity in recent years.  Its history can be traced back to the influence of asian cultures and the US military during the second World War.  Due to the heavy presence of the military during this time and the prevalence of Spam as a long shelf life protein source, it made its way into the local cuisine. The locals of Hawaii developed a taste for Spam due to its affordability and versatility.  It was the marriage of Musubi, a Japanese rice ball wrapped in seaweed, and Spam that led to the creation of the Spam Musubi.
